Breathe Begonte

A place to breathe

A green lung in the
heart of Galicia

Riverside recreational areas in Begonte and Baamonde

The Ladra River runs through Begonte, creating two major riverside areas in Begonte and Baamonde where life is enjoyed outdoors: summer bathing areas, relaxing spaces, walking routes to explore at a leisurely pace, and places designed for enjoying and sharing special moments.

Wetlands and lagoons

In Begonte, nature thrives in perfect balance. Set within the Terras do Miño Biosphere Reserve, riverside forests, meadows and wetlands blend with small lakes such as Riocaldo and the Pozos do Ollo, creating a living landscape that changes with the seasons. Peaceful natural havens where species like the kingfisher and the European otter find refuge and flourish.

Come and live in Begonte and become part of a community rich in history, legends and traditions

The lands of Begonte hold, like a well-kept secret, the traces of those who have lived here for thousands of years. Megalithic sites, hillforts, remains of Roman settlement, medieval churches, manor houses, stone crosses and watermills shape a landscape steeped in history, much of it still waiting to be discovered.

But Begonte is not only about its past. It is a land of artisans and creators who keep a living culture alive—one that is constantly evolving, where tradition and modernity coexist naturally and shape a place with a unique identity.

Breathe the festive spirit!

Because here, we love celebrating
every moment

Throughout the year, the calendar is filled with moments to share. Traditional parish festivals, tributes to our senior residents, events for young people such as BeFest, and summer highlights like the Festa da Empanada by the riverside all help create the warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes everyone feel part of this community.

Music also has its place here, with initiatives such as Festival 27373, which brings together tradition and contemporary sounds.

And every May, the Romería of the Virxe dos Milagres de Saavedra brings together thousands of people in one of Galicia’s most important and renowned pilgrimages.

Since 1972, the Begonte Nativity Scene has been part of the soul of Begonte. Every Christmas, the municipality comes to life as thousands of visitors arrive to experience its iconic Electronic Nativity Scene. Around it, the festive season is celebrated with poetry, painting, journalism and children’s drawing competitions that fill the community with creativity and participation.

The traditional Christmas Market completes the experience, growing year after year and becoming a vibrant gathering place for residents and visitors alike.

If you love Christmas, here it’s not just celebrated — it’s truly felt.

Breathe Christmas!
