The lands that make up Begonte hold treasures of the ancient cultures of our ancestors, most of them still unexplored. Megalithic complexes and sacred forests, Celtic forts, remains of the Roman occupation, buildings and churches of medieval origin, crosses and mills.
Begonte, also a land of artisans and artists, breathes past and present culture and works tirelessly to ensure that tradition and contemporaneity coexist and positively shape the place where we live.
We celebrate our traditional religious festivals in each village, we gather to honor our elders, and bring young people together at the Youth Festival. We celebrate summer by the river with the Empanada Festival, and we stay at the forefront of new trends in Galician music with our 27373 Festival.
We even have one of the most important and well-known pilgrimage sites in Galicia, the Virxe dos Miragres de Saavedra.
Since 1972, the Begonte Nativity Scene has been part of our essence. During Christmas, Begonte transforms and welcomes thousands of visitors eager to enjoy our beautiful electronic nativity scene. Around this event, various activities take place, such as poetry, painting, journalism, and children’s drawing awards. The festive atmosphere is further enhanced by the traditional Christmas Market, which attracts the largest number of exhibitors and visitors each year. If you live for Christmas, this is your place!
